(Focusrite's Youtube video actually says "free to ALL registered Scarlett, Sapphire, Claret etc users.)Īlso, the 8i6 is still advertised on their website - they don't list it as discontinued (which I just found out it is).

Imagine Cockos were giving away "$299" plugins for free to every registered owner.except to people who bought their license in, say, 2011.

To be honest, I probably wouldn't even use them, as I'm not much of a mixer (I use Reaper for composing/arranging mainly) - plus I have enough compressors and eqs.īut to me it's a matter of principle, and I don't think customer trust is encouraged by capricious decisions on who to favour with upgrades or freebies! Just got a reply - neither 8i6 nor 18i6 customers get the free Red Plugins. It is hardly going to help me decide to carry on with Focusrite if/when I upgrade. It does feel a bit of an odd thing to do: If its free to registered users why not free to all registered users.

Thanks, yes Badmotor, that was mentioned above but it does seem a bit hit and miss as to whether it will show in an account - no harm in trying. I also included the Dry version in case you want to see if you can get the same results with another compressor and save money.Īh, almost forgot: yes, the EQ sucks big time. It reminds me of the IK Opto Comp because it doesn't get in the way and doesn't change the sound drastically (in fact, if you see a plot while compressing a 1kHz tone you'll see it's aliasing-free all way at 96kHz -no I didn't test it at 44.1kHz, sorry).Īnyways, here's a comparisson between the FG-Red and this Focusrite Red 3 if someone wants to hear the differences.

It is very very natural sounding and while you can clearly hear the tone (although, like bmanic said it doesn't have any harmonic content but it definitely has a particular sound), it blends so nicely with the sound that you wouldn't care it's imparting that character. The Red 3 feels like part of the performance, it grabs the signal and rides it so smoothly that you can hear it's tight but you're still comfortable with it. To me it is smoother and a bit more natural than the FG-Grey which is my favorite for leveling and getting things in place while editing, just to bring things into perspective before actually mixing. Now, it doesn't sound like The Glue, it's a different tone/comp behavior but it can get you great results in no time (that's why I compare both). It's the comp I load on all tracks when I need to get things done quickly. It works on so many things that I can actually relate to bmanic when he says it is "Like Cytomic The Glue Awesome" because that's one of my favorite comps for "rough mixes".

This is a truly versatile compressor and I have to admit I was skeptic when I read about it because the Scarlett Suite sounds really bad to me (came bundled with my Liquid Saffire 56).
